This year’s Data Science Day, an international conference organized by WAN-IFRA, was hosted by the prestigious German newspaper Süddeutsche Zeitung in Munich. The event brought together data professionals from digital news, including analysts, scientists, engineers, and chief data officers, to share insights and experiences.
One of the thematic roundtables focused on Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) systems, and Geneea was invited to moderate the discussion due to our active research and development in this area. In short, a RAG system is a chatbot that allows users to efficiently search for reliable information—for example, within a specific news archive.
Jirka Hana and Alzbeta Tomickova led the discussion, covering topics such as selecting RAG providers, adopting state-of-the-art technologies, and distinguishing between chatbots designed for reader interaction versus those intended as research and editorial tools for journalists.
We appreciated the opportunity to exchange knowledge with colleagues from around the world and remain committed to advancing our work in this field.
