At the end of May 2024, we attended the World News Media Congress in Copenhagen, which had been organized by WAN-IFRA. The main topic of the conference was generative AI and large language models. The discussions focused on the application of AI for editorial work and the use of media house content by technology companies to train language models.
In addition to AI, monetization was an important topic, especially subscriptions. Media companies are looking for ways to attract new readers and cover the costs of creating quality content. Quality was often mentioned as a weapon in a world where AI can easily generate low-quality material. There were also discussions about trust in human-created content.
Considerable attention was also given to fake news. Media houses are trying to find ways to combat disinformation at a time when it is easy to create and spread false information.
